Travis began studying music at the age of seven, accompanying his voice with a ukulele and practicing simple piano tunes. After his eighth birthday, he studied the guitar with Peter Zisa, who taught him diligently for seven years. During these fundamental years, Travis became an accomplished young guitarist in the Portland Guitar Society and regularly performed at their monthly open-mic. These studies led him to Seattle, WA, twice a month to take lessons with Michael Partington until he was accepted into the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied with David Tanenbaum.
Travis has also enjoyed lessons and Master Classes with Ana Vidovic, Jeremy Jouve, Marcin Dylla, Judicael Perroy, Gabriel Bianco, William Kanengeiser, Martha Masters, David Russel, Oscar Ghiglia, and Raphael Smits.
In 2004, he was able to commission an original work by Mr. Bryan Johanson for solo guitar titled Boppin’, and the following year took that piece to the Guitar Foundation of America’s first National Youth Solo Guitar Competition where he won First Prize. Soon afterward, Travis performed a solo recital at the Northwest Guitar Festival in the spring of 2006. He was also a guest artist at the 2007 American Luthier Guild, featuring his own guitar built by world-renowned luthier Jeffery Elliot. He was most recently welcomed as a guest artist at the Corvallis Guitar Society and the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society in April of 2018.
Travis was recognized by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development as a Davidson Fellow, as well as received a Young Artists Award from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The JKCF has provided him with a Young Scholars Award, Undergraduate Scholar Award, and Graduate Arts Award, all of which have aided his artistic and professional development through scholarship and advising Travis in making critical decisions for the future that is in store for him.
He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music with a Master of Music Performance degree in 2017 under the tutelage of Adam Holzman. Travis now teaches and performs around the Pacific Northwest and loves to share music with a variety of audiences by performing at open-mics, schools, recitals, and through his live-stream practice sessions.
Nathan Holterman, a Portland native, and lifelong musician discovered the guitar in 2003. His determination and dedication to the instrument allowed him to develop great skill and pursue a career in music education and performance.
Mr. Holterman studied under notable Portland area guitarists Pamela Goldsmith, (Linfield College) and Jesse McCann (PSU). He has also performed in numerous master classes for some of the best players in the world, including Manuel Barrueco, Jason Vieaux, and Martha Masters. Additionally, Nathan has placed as a finalist in several international competitions and has been a featured performer at the Portland Guitar Society.
Through years of teaching, performing and his education at Portland State University, from which Mr. Holterman holds a Bachelors of Music in Classical Guitar Performance, he has become a highly respected performer and instructor in the Portland area and is known for his flawless technique.
Alfredo Muro shares the joy of his musical talent while performing, composing and teaching throughout International Guitar Festivals, concerts, lectures or coaching/teaching at his Guitar Studio. These three passions provide the basis for the phenomenal success of this musician and his ongoing and constant evolution.
Also, this year Alfredo Muro will be recording two new CD projects dedicated to the music of the Latin American giants: Astor Piazzolla & Antonio Carlos Jobim and the recordings of his own compositions and the premiere recording of a Brazilian Suite, composed by Brazilian guitarist-composer Jose Barrense-Dias and dedicated to Alfredo Muro.
Alfredo Muro’s concerts unfold for audiences as a personal and unique experience of emotional awakening, bringing much more than just strong technical talent to the stage. He brings an intense love for the music he chooses and performs with such great sensitivity and emotion. He has the rare ability to become the music, losing himself in it and enabling the audience to transcend their own experience and share his. While this is evident on his many recordings, it is in live performance where this manifests most strongly.
From intimate house concerts to packed concert halls and each time the music rises from where he sits and extends his embrace to those in attendance. It bows to our inner dancer, extends it’s hand and draws us under his spell. Sometime later the audience awake to their own thundering applause, wondering how their hearts can be so full and their smiles so wide. This is how it’s supposed to be.
Krzysztof has performed all over the world giving solo recitals, chamber music concerts and performing with orchestras. He has performed in such halls as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Ryutopia Concert Hall in Niigata, the Tokyo International Forum, the National Philharmonic Concert Hall in Warsaw, the Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw, the National Opera House in Warsaw, the Lysenko Concert Hall of the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Hall in Kiev,
the Theatre du Palais Royal in Paris, the Raitt Recital Hall in Malibu, the Grossmunster in Zurich, or the Hatch Recital Hall in Rochester. His Berliner Philharmonie debut in 2014 ended with a long standing ovation.
Berto Boyd began his musical training on the piano at age 5 and has been playing guitar for over 30 years. A rigorous musician and careful researcher, he has studied in Spain and performed throughout the United States with some of the world’s best Flamenco, Classical and Jazz artists. Born into a family of artists, which includes famed lead singer, Brandon Boyd of the multi-platinum band Incubus, he is one of few Americans dedicated to mastering the art of the Spanish guitar and composing original Flamenco music. Berto’s debut album Esmeralda (2003) featured all original Flamenco compositions.
Berto was commissioned to transcribe the monumental guitar score for Avalon – Suite for Flamenco guitar and Chamber Orchestra by Jose Luis de la Paz, which he performed during its’ debut at the Miami Dade Auditorium in 2015. Other performance highlights include: Performances with Flamenco Pacifico at major Oregon festivals such as Britt Fest, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland World Music Festival, Oregon Country Fair among others; Quintet works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Boccherini at the Chintimini Chamber Music Festival finale concert in 2017.
Berto recently relocated to Portland where he divides his time between concert performances, transcribing, composing, mentoring, skateboarding and spending time with his family. He is the musical director of Flamenco Pacifico, Oregon’s premiere Flamenco music and dance ensemble. Their 2017 release “Convivencia” was nominated for “Best World/Global Fusion Album of 2017” by One World Music Awards.
Cameron O’Connor, whose playing has been described as “stunning and emotive” (Eugene Register-Guard), enjoys a diverse career in solo, chamber, contemporary, and popular music. Recent highlights include solo and duo recitals throughout Japan; chamber music and opera appearances with musicians of the Oregon Symphony and Eugene Opera; as a chamber music soloist at the New World Symphony in Miami (for which the South Florida Classical Review noted that he was “especially effective in the quick and diabolical figures”); appearing as a guest artist and performing duos with Sharon Isbin at the Aspen Music Festival and School;
performances with LA Opera singers in the premiere of Neely Bruce’s “Circular 14: The Apotheosis of Aristides”; performing with Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony; and appearing under the baton of Chinese composer Tan Dun in his Eastern-tinged Concerto for Six, for which the New York Times reviewed that “O’Connor fluttered on his guitar strings in a manner reminiscent of a pipa player’s technique.”
Additionally, O’Connor is a prizewinner in ten international competitions, including the Tokyo and Frances Walton. His performances have been featured in films, from James Franco’s Don Quixote to Some Kind of Spark (a documentary made on The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program) to Scott Tennant’s instructional classic Pumping Nylon, and on radio broadcasts such as KPFK’s Global Village, KingFM’s Northwest Live!, Portland All-Classical, and American Public Media’s Performance Today. O’Connor also performs regularly in musical theatre productions on electric guitar, banjo, and mandolin, and now serves as full-time faculty of Oregon State University. O’Connor was a full scholarship recipient at CSU Northridge, where he studied with Ron Borczon; the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Sharon Isbin; and at the USC Thornton School of Music under William Kanengiser. Alberto Cumplido studied composition and harmony with the Cirilo Vila. Literature courses directed by the poet Enrique Lihn. In Chile, he studied guitar with Luis López and Oscar Ohlsen. Abroad Alberto studied with Abel Carlevaro, Eduardo Fernandez, Leo Brouwer, Egberto Gismonti, Manuel Barrueco, Ralph Towner, Ichiro Suzuki, and Oscar Gighlia.
In the “Taller de Músicos” of Barcelona, he studied Jazz. In Germany he made composition works under the direction of the Chilean composer Gustavo Becerra, and the German composer Olaf Jansen. Alberto lived and toured in Europe for 18 years (Spain and Germany), and in Barcelona, he worked as a teacher at the guitar school of Eulogio Dávalos and at María Anglada’s music school. In Germany, he taught at the Music Schule in Minden, and at private schools in Berlin and Hanover. He has lived in Santiago de Chile since 2000, and is the creator and director of the international guitar festival “Entrecuerdas.”
He has performed concerts in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and South America. Abroad he has played with musicians such as Terry Butler, Juango Arrom, Luis Melero, Oriol Camprodón, and many more.
Gwen Franz has been an active classical violist and violinist in the Seattle area for many years as a chamber and studio musician. A regular extra player with the Seattle Symphony and the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestras, she also was a member of the Northwest Sinfonietta for six years and a concerto soloist with the Bremerton Symphony. Her extensive work in violin and viola include advanced degree studies at Indiana University, the University of Evansville, Michigan State University, and the University of Washington. Gwen has also recently been performing in other genres such as jazz and traditional world music with the string trio Douce Ambiance and Pearl Django.
